A number of registration options are available for the ACAA 2012 Conference and Trade Expo. Delegates are able to register for the full Conference or alternatively, may register for any individual day or days of their choosing.

Full Conference Registration Fee

Full registration includes access to all conference plenary sessions and workshop, access to the trade exhibition each day, receipt of a delegate’s satchel including all hard-copy conference material as provided by the speakers, exhibitors and sponsors, plus lunch, morning and afternoon tea on all three days.

Day Registration Fee

Day registration includes access to conference plenary sessions and workshop plus access to the trade exhibition on the specified day, also receipt of a delegate’s satchel including all hard-copy conference material as provided by the speakers, exhibitors and sponsors, plus lunch, morning and afternoon tea on the nominated day.

Early Bird Registration

Incentives apply for delegates who register early with a special early-bird rate. All registrations received before 25 April 2012 will attract a special discounted rate.

Conference Proceedings

Following the conference a DVD will be produced of the conference proceedings. This DVD will also contain contact details for all delegates (subject to them not requesting privacy in their registration), all trade exhibitors plus all ACAA financial members (subject to them not requesting privacy in their application). The DVD will be provided to all delegates, all trade exhibitors plus all ACAA financial members.

Payment

All payment should accompany your registration form. Registrations will not be confirmed without payment. Payment may be made by cheque, money order or by direct debit. Details are provided on the Registration Form below.

Cancellation

All Conference registration cancellations must be received in writing

  • Cancellations received before 25 April 2012 will be refunded in full less a $25.00 administrative charge.
  • Cancellations received between 25 April and 2 May 2012 will receive a 50% refund less a $25.00 administrative charge.
  • No refund of registration fees will be possible if cancellation is received after 2 March 2012, however substitute delegates may attend subject to prior approval from the Conference Organisers.
Accommodation

Delegates are responsible for making their own arrangements for booking and paying for accommodation. You are advised to liaise directly with the accommodation provider to establish if the accommodation you choose can meet your needs. ACAA cannot accept any responsibility for accommodation bookings.

The Convention Centre is associated with Lasseters Hotel Casino which has limited 4.5 star accommodation.

For accommodation at a discount you must mention your affiliation with the ACAA Conference.

Additional accommodation, also 4.5 star, is available nearby at the Crowne Plaza, 82 Barrett Drive, Alice Springs NT 0871.

However, Alice Springs offers a range of accommodation to suit every budget and taste, with quality hotels to apartment style accommodation.

To assist in choosing suitable accommodation and online booking can be done for various hotels. A map of Alice Springs is also provided for orientation and proximity to the conference venue.

Travel

How to get there

Air Alice Springs is easily accessible from all parts of Australia, with 3-hour flights daily from most mainland capital cities.
Rail The Ghan railway, one of the great train journeys of the world, runs twice a week from Alice Springs to Adelaide and Darwin. With options from the economical Red Service through to the Deluxe Platinum Service, there is something to suit all travellers.
Road Alice Springs is serviced by first class highways and a road trip is a great way to see the Central Australian landscape, either on a self-drive adventure or with a national coach company.

The Conference

The ACAA 2012 Conference and Trade Expo is the premier industry conference covering issues governing Access to Premises. It will attract key building industry personnel, access consultants, and significant representation from government and allied associations. An estimated 150-200 delegates are expected to attend.
The Conference and Trade Expo will be held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre. Housing all aspects of the event, the Convention Centre is an idyllic location for a meeting. With speakers from across Australia, the program aims to ensure all presentations are contemporary and current, presenting delegates with additional knowledge and the latest information.

The Conference Organisers have designed a program featuring both plenary sessions and an interactive workshop that will focus on a variety of topics and technical requirements relevant to all building industry professionals. Leading suppliers of building products and services will also be in attendance at the Trade Expo showcasing the latest industry developments. The Conference will provide delegates participating in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs with an excellent opportunity to receive CPD points.

As usual, there is an evening social program planned which will provide delegates with additional opportunities to network with colleagues and exchange views.

The Association

ACAA is recognised nationally as the peak professional body representing access consultants in Australia. ACAA is the leading representative on national advisory bodies and standards development committees for access issues. ACAA members are leaders in the access to premises field.

ACAA members serve the building industry and the community through the provision of expert, up-to-date information on legislative requirements and best practise for providing access to premises and the built environment.

The ACAA promotes the pursuit of excellence in access to the built environment with a view to creating an inclusive community for all Australian citizens.

ACAA members are kept abreast of up-to-date information through a Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD) which includes the ACAA Biennial Conference and Trade Expo.

The Location

Alice Springs, located in the centre of Australia, is the nation’s most famous outback town. Alice Springs has a genuine “can do” attitude from all involved in the business tourism industry. Alice Springs is home to around 28,000 people and sits nestled between the East and West Macdonnell Ranges which stretch for hundreds of kilometres. Featuring a range of gaps, gorges and water holes along its length, exploring the Macdonnell Ranges will unveil many unexpected surprises.

With a semi-arid environment, autumn in Alice Springs is characterised by warm days and nights that are cooling down after summer. Average temperatures range from minimums of 13°C to maximums of 28°C.

The Venue

The Alice Springs Conference Centre is ideally located to bring together delegates from across the nation. The Convention Centre is an adaptable and flexible venue. It is all on one level making it easy to get around. Yet the innovative architecture creates a sense of being immersed in the genuine Australian outback while enjoying thoroughly modern, technologically advanced facilities.

An Administrative Assistant is available to provide support such as photocopying, faxing and the like, between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.

Goods Transport

The Alice Springs Convention Centre has an agreement in place with national transport company, TOLL EXPRESS, ensuring clients receive a 20% discount on freight transport.

Smoking

The conference venue is a non-smoking establishment and laws prohibit smoking within 4 metres of an entrance to the Convention Centre.

However for accommodation purposes, although all rooms at Lasseters Hotel Resort are non-smoking rooms, the hotel does offer rooms which permit smoking on the outside balcony. Please specify your preference when arranging your accommodation.

Information Desk

During the conference an information desk will be located in the Ghan Foyer to process registrations and provide advice on programs, functions, accommodation and all other aspects relating to the Conference.

Special Requirements

Delegates who have special needs or dietary requirements should note the specific details in the space provided on the registration form to ensure the best assistance from the Conference Organisers.

Plenary Program

During the Conference a range of presentation formats are proposed to maximise the opportunities for delegates to gain both new knowledge as well as exposure to techniques for the practical application of requirements.

The conference program will feature a diverse range of presenters speaking on key topics including:

Workshop

Conference workshop activities will include site visits within the Alice Springs and the immediate environs, providing special opportunities for delegates to experience, examine and discuss some of the major access issues to be found there.

CPD Points

This is a period of rapid change in legislation, technology, and community expectations for an accessible and inclusive society, and it behoves access consultants to step up to the challenge and prepare for the future. Professionals working in the access consulting industry will find the ACAA Conference and Trade Expo a significant Continuing Professional Development event. ACAA members attending the conference for the full three days will be awarded 30 CPD points. CPD points may be available to allied professionals attending. Check with your professional association for eligibility details.

Trade Exhibition

A trade exhibition will be conducted in conjunction with the Conference. The trade exhibition will provide delegates with additional opportunities to learn of the latest equipment and services being provided for access consulting and to exchange views and experiences with the company representatives. The trade exhibition will be open from 8:00am each day.

Social Functions

Social functions are planned which will give delegates the opportunity to relax and unwind and enjoy the relaxed Central Australian atmosphere that Alice Springs brings to the Conference.

Meet & Greet Function
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Wednesday 23 May

The Meet & Greet Function to welcome delegates will be held in the Ellery Room of the Convention Centre and will provide an opportunity for participants to relax and network with other conference delegates. Wear your casuals and join colleagues and enjoy some quiet drinks and nibbles. Listen to the function sponsor and accept their invitation to visit their trade exhibit. Meet other trade exhibitors. Meet the Conference Organising Committee members and perhaps get to ask questions of the keynote speakers and other presenters.

Conference Dinner
6:00pm to 10:00pm
Thursday 24 May

Join the ACAA Management for a memorable evening of good food and good company. The Conference Dinner will be held in the Ellery Room of the Convention Centre. Smart casual dress will assist create the relaxed nature of the function. Listen to the function sponsor and accept their invitation to visit their trade exhibit. Get together with your friends and book a table. Grasp the opportunity to explore some of the ideas and issues that you wish to solve in the relaxed atmosphere the function will create.

Exhibition Prizes

Friday 25 May

Exhibitors Prize - Exhibitors business cards will be collected during the conference and during lunch on Friday 25 May a draw will be made to determine the winner of the ACAA 2012 Trade Exhibitors prize. The winning exhibitor must be present to claim the prize.

Delegates Trade Expo Visitation Prize - To demonstrate the ACAA commitment to supporting the Trade Exhibitors, a prize will be awarded to the delegate that can demonstrate that they have visited ALL the exhibits by the lunch break on Friday 25 May 2012. Where there is more than one complete entry, a draw will be made to determine the winner of the ACAA 2012 Delegates Trade Expo Visitation Prize. The winning delegate must be present to claim the prize.
